The word essentials may sound a bit strict, there really are no rules when it comes to fashion, but here are some items that you will always need and are great base layers for any outfit :)

Jeans

Lets be honest you all saw this one coming, but it has been a classic wardrobe staple ! plus these are never out of trend which makes them extremely flexible to work with.

I would have the 4 main Jean cuts in my wardrobe as they can essentially be paired with almost anything

Mom Jeans

Mom Jeans are now the new 'skinny jean' in Fashion. I think everyone is completely over skinny jeans. This is because mom jeans have more structure, movement and even variations which make them incredibly flexible as you can match it with literally everything !

One of my favorite mom jean variation is the slouchy mom jean like the one below, they are really loose and long which give you an elongated and taller look, this is because they give you a higher and longer waist and cover your ankles so you don't really show where your leg ends ! As a 5'1 gal I really love anything that makes me look taller.

Flared Jeans

Flared Jeans are a great way of adding drama to an outfit but in a subtle way, they are incredibly retro and cool and will give your style a fun and funky twist whilst keeping the whole outfit pretty classic.

Wide leg Jeans

I personally find wide-leg Jeans incredibly elegant and put together, They are suitable for all heights and body shapes. You can add a cropped leather jacket for the night time for an edgy look or pair it with an oversized shirt for that effortless streetwear look.

As for shoes, Wide leg Jeans will need something more structured in the bottom so a high-top or chunky sneaker would be your best option. I would avoid sandals, heels and ballerina flats as these will disproportion the rest of the outfit

Cardigans

Cardigans are great for the lazy days when you just want to throw something on yet still look presentable. Fun and colourful cardigans can genuinely be thrown on top of any basic pieces such as jeans, skirts and T-shirts and will help add a fun twist to a basic outfit.

Trousers

Trousers are must haves as they can be used for both formal and casual wear, They are great for your last minute meetings and dinner parties where you need to look put together !

These can be paired with shirts, blazers, cardigans, T-shirts .... the list goes on and shoe wise basically everything goes with them too! weather it be sandals or heels you can almost rock anything with a nice pair of trousers !

Hoodies

I don't think I know anyone who doesn't own at least one hoodie! I mean lets be honest most of us basically live in these ! Hoodies are just so flexible and comfortable who wouldn't love them !

I usually shop in the mens section for my hoodies just because I find that they have a wider selection and often have a bigger price range as well

You can pair these with blazers, jeans, dresses, skirts ....... the list goes on.

Everyday accessories

Having a set of simple everyday accessories can help make your outfit more fashionable, these are the finishing touches that can genuinely change the whole look.

Bags

Tote bags are a must have for your shopping and study outings as they can store a lot of things and are comfy to carry around.

Small backpacks are essential when traveling on both short and long trips, they are so convenient and easy to carry around

And lastly we all need a cross body bag for our daily activities. I would say the 2 main colours I would usually go for are black and brown as these colours match almost everything

Jewellery

When it comes to jewellery see what suits you best and what you are into you can mix and match everything and personalise your jewellery pieces. This is hands down my favourite part when getting dressed.

I personally gravitate towards gold accessories instead of silver as they compliment my skin tone better, rose gold and gold match warmer and darker skin tones whereas silver accessories compliment lighter and cooler skin tones.

I love mixing chunky accessories with lighter ones and layering them. You just need to find which accessories compliment your skin tone and what you like best :)
